Professional Development Documents
- ճ Guide for Aligning Local Curricula to the Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards was designed to support 91ƽ school districts and educators as they implement the 91ƽ Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards (adopted 2017).
- Professional Development Toolkit aԻ PowerPoint presentation are available for districts toutilize in conjunction with the Guide for Aligning Local Curricula to support locally held professional development sessions on aligning local mathematics curriculum to the Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards.
- The guidance document, Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards: Suggested Breakdown of Instructional Time, is an optional resource intended to provide support and guidance for districts and teachers;assisting with classroom instructional planning for the implementation of the Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards (NGMLS).
Post-Test Standards Designations
These post-test standards designations are to be used to maintain connections between standards within the grade level, foster connections across grades, provide balance, and respect the time needed to teach and learn the 91ƽ Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards. Because the post-test standards of one grade are tested on the following grade level’s State test, this principle also helps assure students are prepared to answer questions addressing the post-test standards.

- Expanded Mathematics Access Program(EMAP)for Grades K-5
As a result of a $7.5 Million over 5 years appropriation in the April 2019 enacted budget to support math fluency and the love of math within elementary students (K-5) across New York, NYSED launched the Expanded Math Access Program (K-5)initiative. The EMAP initiative exists to provide students with FREE access to the program that offers online standards-based, math games and activities at no cost to NYS districts or students. When working on the First in Math program, theadditional practice will provide support to assist students in meeting grade-level fluency expectations and the program is accessible at school and at home. This will allow families to support their student’s math education.
To sign up for FREE access to the First in Math program, please complete this and you will be contacted.
A Parent’s Guide to 91ƽ P-12 Math Learning Standards addresses parent questions and connects parents with additional math education resources to support learning at home. A parent’s booklet was created that will help you better understand how the Next Generation affects English Language Learners.
The Parent’s Guide has been translated into ten languages, which you can access by clicking on the link below:

Suggestions for Use
As a free and shareable resource, districts are encouraged to share the flyer in multiple settings or on a variety of platforms. Copies may be distributed through email, linked on a webpage, or printed and shared as part of a welcome packet or at a school function or event. As the resource facilitates dialogue between parents and educators, the flyer is recommended for any situation in which parents and educators interact, such as parent teacher conferences or open houses.
